THE PEOPLE OF MINAS GERAIS
Minas opens its doors to the world, is an affable, kind and gracious host. It doesn’t keep a grudge and won’t deny a handout to the poor. The people of minas (Mineiros) are zealous and profound, their chests pound with a passion, like a resounding bell. It’s in art that they trace their destiny as they fight in defense of truth. This Minas calls itself FREEDOM, Tiradentes, Tancredo and Juscelino.
The Mineiro is a bit of a skeptic, philosophizes about intrigue, will give his right arm to not be involved in a fight but if he’s forced to he will enter it thunderously, giving his right arm if necessary and seeing it to the finish victoriously. Freedom is the verse that he recites, only believing there is fire upon seeing the flame, with the sound of a band being played repeatedly in his head. The Mineiros are known to be wise, famous as sweet talkers, fond of good food and for their prowess in bed.
The Mineiro is powerfully persuasive, is enchanted with the moon, performs serenades and is a poet, a dreamer, and a gentleman. He can be a bit irascible, may trip up anything that might come upon him, is stubborn, but is a person of vision. He applies the same word (trem) to anything, cries uai (why), and likes pão de queijo (cheese bread). When he sees a mountain he dreams of a kiss, his desires he feigns as being disdain.
The Mineiro is famous for playing it safe, for keeping close his prized possessions. When he ties a knot, he ties it tight. He reaps what he’s sown. He speaks his mind, only stopping to hear of the future. In the event of fire, he waits to see which color the smoke is, while never losing his sense of humor.
Mineiros are never trapped; they only fall into the snare to drink some good old cachaça.
