The original village appeared in the Gold Cycle in 1781 and, in 1962, it officially became a town. Located in one of the highest points of the Zona da Mata region and 49 km from Viçosa, Araponga is a region with typical mountain climate, surrounded by mountains, peaks, forests and waterfalls. The town is surrounded by fog in the winter, which is ideal for a climate resort.
There, we can find the Serra do Brigadeiro State Park, with over 14 000 hectares (34,5 thousand acres)of green area and acknowledged as an ecological sanctuary. Nature will present you with beautiful natural scenery that includes waterfalls, mountains and many endangered species. The park houses several Peaks: Soares, Campestre, da Grama and do Boné. The altitude and relief alleviate the local temperature and fog covers the peaks almost the whole year, creating one of the most beautiful images in the park.
