The first to arrive in the region where Patrocínio is today, were the Lourenço Castanho Taques gang, in the second half of the seventeenth century. From there, others came and the city grew. In 1804 a chapel was built in honor of Nossa Senhora do Patrocínio, which would give the town its name.
The Serra do Cruzeiro Mountains are the main natural attraction of the destination. It is the highest point of Patrocínio and in 1994 built a statue of Cristo Redentor (Christ Redeemer) made up of one hundred pieces and became a reference point.
Patrocínio still retains some of its eighteenth-century mansions. The Casarão da Casa de Cultura and the Casa da Família Aguiar Mansion Houses are the best known. The Professor Hugo Machado Museum, the Patrocínio Craft and Culture Fair and Felipe Massa Carting track are part of the cultural attractions of the itinerary.
