São João Del Rei

São João is known as the ”Land where the bells speak” as itholds a curious tradition: by the sound of the bell, you knowwhere, when and by which celebrant will the ceremony, be conducted. Also if there will be a procession and in the case of the death, even if the deceased was male or female. In addition to this rich tradition, the city also preserves beautiful heritage and was the birthplace of important personalities in the history of Minas Gerais and Brazil: Joaquim Jose da Silva Xavier,Tiradentes, D. Barbara Wilhelmina Heliodora da Silveira and Tancredo Neves.


Travel tips

Um dos roteiros quase obrigatórios para quem visita São João del-Rei é o passeio de  Maria Fumaça. São 12 Km até o destino: a estação de Tiradentes. O passeio dura 35 minutos e tem uma vista privilegiada da Serra de São José.
