Considered sacred by the mystics, the city attracts tourists in search of fun and also peace of mind. São Thomé das Letras is located at the peak of a mountain of a rock in the Serra da Mantiqueira (Sierra Mantiqueira) mountains a reserve of beauty, attractions and mysteries, many residents believe they live surrounded by aliens. The imaginary around the legends of the place has boosted tourism in the city.

The exploitation of quartzite stone, also called Pedra São Tomé (São Tomé Stone), is still the main source of income of the city, used for covering houses, sidewalks and now since being exported to several countries in Europe, the city became known as the “stone city”.

São Tomé das Letras is surrounded by a valley with lots of vegetation that hides caves, waterfalls and caves with exotic beauty and belongs to the largest tourism project carried out in Minas Gerais, the Estrada Real (Royal Road).
