An interesting name for a city of the Zona da Mata region which is explained in a legend that the nomadic Indians would come to the region and would go fishing, not finding enough fish, having to move using the expression ”piracuera” which means ” there is no fish here.”
The City began acting as a municipality in January 1997 and has approximately three thousand inhabitants. The plain forests of Sem Peixe are ideal for camping and hiking. The local relief forms trails, where it is not difficult to find waterfalls, since the city is bordered by the Rio Doce River, to a great extent. The city is part of the Circuito Turístico Montanha e Fé (Mountain and Faith Tourist Circuit).
