Seventy percent of people who make tourism abroad also visit Brazil.
In the last three years, domestic tourism has gained momentum and importancein the Brazilian economy. For every ten Brazilians who do domestic travel, onlyone travels abroad. Among those traveling to other countries, 70% are also domestic travelers. About 30% of the total cost of international travel stays in Brazil, benefiting brazilian companies mainly in the areas of air transportation, tour operators and travel agencies. This data is provided by the Department of Studies and Research(Depes) of the Ministry of Tourism.
Another important indicator for the tourist industry is expanding consumer market for tourism, which increased 16% in the country. The number of Brazilians traveling jumped from 43 million to 50 million between 2007 and 2010. Theincrease was primarily responsible for the new middle class. The number of tripshas also increased: from 156 million in 2007 to 186.5 million in 2010.
According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), for every 100 jobs created in hotels, 26 others are created in the industry, and for every $ 100.00 billed by the hotel sector, other R$ 76.00 are injected in Brazilian industry.
For the director of Dept / Ministry of Tourism, Francisco José Salles Lopes, ”the healthy price competition between airlines, the addition of Class C consumer, combined with income growth, credit and employment in Brazil is resulting in an effective growth of tours, especially in Brazil. “
Currently, domestic tourism accounts for about 85% of Brazilian tourism. The share of the tourism sector in Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Brazil is 3.6% (approximately $ 132 billion).
