Ibitipoca is truly a rare place. As one of the most beautiful state parks of Minas Gerais, Ibitipoca has caves of quartzite, one of the rarest minerals in the world, and for this characteristic it has such a unique appearance. In addition, this beautiful piece of the Serra da Mantiqueira has trials, waterfalls, colorful peaks and streams that impress you with their beauty. Walking through the region, taking in the flora and fauna of this unforgettable piece of Minas is one of the favorite activities of people who spend several days here.
Day 1– Lima Duarte/ Vila de Ibitipoca
25 km separate the village of Lima Duarte and Vila de Ibitipoca; plenty of time for you to soak in the regions beauty.
Day 2– Vila de Ibitipoca/Parque Estadual do Ibitipoca
The starting point of the Ibitipoca State Park, bound for Heaven’s Window Waterfall (Janela do Céu), one of the most beautiful points of the Park. On the way there are many caves and Lombada Peak. It’s a 16 km walk. For the most energetic, nightlife in the village is recommended.
Day 3– Vila de Ibitipoca/Parque Estadual do Ibitipoca
A quiet day with many baths in waterfalls with reddish park water and trips through some caves. Visit the Macacos Waterfall, the Prainha, the Tibum Waterfall and the Pedra Bridge. Toucans, swifts or tayras may cross your path. After the waterfall, return to the village
Day 4– Vila de Ibitipoca/Parque Estadual do Ibitipoca
A moderate 9km walk through fields and forests: the destination is the Pico do Pião. Along the way, stop at some caves, take in views, and see the ruins of the ancient Senhor Bom Jesus da Serra Chapel.
Day 5– Vila de Ibitipoca
Sleep in late and make your last visit to the village. Don’t forget to take home some of the region’s cinnamon.
