Located in Zona da Mata (the forest zone), Jequeri’s economy depends on its agricultural exports and cattle for beef. The first occupants here were farmers, who were attracted to the region’s fertile land. According to tradition, Jequeri’s name was inspired by an old resident, Sr. Miguel Jequeri. The Casca River cuts through the municipality running South-North. Local religious festivals are held frequently and include the Rosário Festival, Day of the local patron, Sant’Ana, and the celebration of Jubileu de Bom Jesus.
