Piumhi is a traditional and hospitable city. Discovered in 1731 by bandeirantes (flag-flying explorers) who came looking for riches, its name means “river of many fish” or “river of many flies”. Attractions include the Serra do Araras, the Piumhi and São Francisco rivers, the Sierras of Andaime and Pimenta, with natural slopes for practising paragliding, and the Usina Waterfall. Monuments such as the Nossa Senhora da Abada da Cruz do Monte Chapel, the Centennial Square, the Breno Culture Space II, and the Rosário Church are all worth visiting.
Travel Tips: The Nossa Senhora da Abada da Cruz do Monte Church is considered the typical postcard image of Piumhi, with gardens full of flowers and plants, along with a panoramic view of the city and the sierra. It’s the perfect space for relaxation, leisure and meditation.
