This municipality is located in the Zona da Mata of Minas, which originally belonged to Manhuaçu and in 1923, became the city of Raul Soares, named in homage to the governor of the state. The city forms part of the Montanhas e Fé tourist circuit, with a highlight being the Boachá Peak; one of the best natural slopes for free flying, its 700 metre precipice and wide landing area is perfect for long flights. Raul Soares is a place of abundant natural beauty. The Emboque Dam is an excellent option for water sports, while several other attractions, such as waterfalls, mountain bike trails and walking routes, ensure there is always plenty to do and see. A hospitable and party-loving city, its cultural highlights include the professionally organised carnival, with parades and floats, and the Popular Song Festival. Endorsed by the House of Culture, this event aims to promote and encourage local artists from throughout the region.
